Make 'Kaad' Great Again?
Make ‘Kaad’ Great Again is a temporary urban intervention that reimagines Warorot Market as a place not only for exchange, but also for staying, gathering, and everyday encounter. The project begins with a simple question: What kind of public space stays with us long after we leave?
For generations, traditional markets have functioned as important social infrastructure—places where commerce, conversation, and community naturally intertwined. As cities evolve, however, many markets have gradually become spaces of efficiency: destinations for purchasing rather than places to spend time. At the same time, cafés have increasingly assumed the role of the contemporary “third place,” offering environments where people linger, work, meet, and observe everyday urban life.
Rather than competing with this cultural shift, the project asks a simple question:
What if the market could speak the language of today’s public life?
The proposal introduces a series of lightweight, removable installations throughout Warorot Market that borrow familiar elements from café culture—shared tables, benches, planting, graphic interventions, mirrors, and subtle lighting. Inserted into the existing market without altering its operation, these interventions invite visitors to pause, sit, converse, and experience the market beyond the act of consumption.
The project does not seek to transform the identity of Warorot Market, nor to replace its existing rhythms. Instead, it reveals overlooked possibilities already embedded within the everyday life of the market. By encouraging moments of rest and informal occupation, the intervention extends the market’s social role while respecting its economic and cultural significance.
Make ‘Kaad’ Great Again proposes that public space does not always require large-scale transformation. Sometimes, small and carefully placed interventions are enough to reshape how people perceive, occupy, and connect with the city.
Ultimately, the project is less about designing new objects than about creating new relationships—between people, place, and the everyday rituals that quietly sustain urban life.
